03 Mar Double Exfoliation: What It Is and Why It’s Important
Double exfoliation is an advanced procedure in a skincare routine that involves using two types of exfoliants: one chemical and one physical. The goal is to deeply cleanse the skin, removing dead cells and promoting a healthier, more radiant appearance.
Exfoliation, in general, is essential for renewing the skin, preventing dullness, and reducing imperfections such as dark spots and enlarged pores.
In double exfoliation, the process starts with an acid-based exfoliant, such as salicylic or glycolic acid, which dissolves dead cells and regulates oil production. Then, a gentle physical exfoliant, with rounded microbeads, is used to help remove the loosened cells from the surface without causing irritation.
This process should be done in moderation to avoid damaging the skin. Experts recommend performing double exfoliation two to three times a week, integrating it into your routine alongside other hydrating products like toners, serums, or masks.
The key is to find the right products for your skin type: for oily skin, acids like salicylic are ideal, while for dry skin, lactic or glycolic acid are gentler options. When used correctly, double exfoliation can improve skin texture and promote healthy regeneration.
