07 Nov How to Achieve the Bouffant Look
To achieve the classic bouffant hairstyle with its vintage charm, follow these steps to achieve a voluminous and elegant look that will make you stand out.
- The first step to a perfect bouffant is to begin with freshly washed hair. Use a volumising shampoo to prepare your hair for body-adding waves.
- After washing, apply a heat protectant and a sea salt spray to damp hair. These products not only protect your hair from heat but also add texture and volume, making it easier to create defined waves.
- Dry your hair straight with heat, making sure it is completely dry before moving on to the next step. Part your hair down the centre from the roots to the crown to make the waving process easier.
- Once your hair is dry and prepped, use a curling iron to create loose, defined waves. Wrap small sections of hair around the curling iron and release after a couple of seconds. Repeat this process from the middle of your hair to the ends, ensuring each section is evenly waved.
- With all the waves in place, use your fingers to comb through and loosen the waves. Next, focus on creating the bouffant: take the hair from the crown section and brush it back with a comb. This technique, also known as backcombing, adds impressive volume to your hair, creating the desired “bird’s nest” effect.
- Seal the bouffant with hairspray to maintain the volume and shape. Place additional hair over the created nest, spray with more hairspray, and gently comb to smooth the surface. Finish with an extra layer of hairspray over the entire hair, including the waves, to ensure your hairstyle remains flawless throughout the day.
