How to Care for Your Hair After a Day at the Beach

The sun, salt, and wind can leave your hair dry and lifeless. To help your hair survive summer adventures and keep looking amazing, follow these post-beach hair care steps.

Tutorial:
First, rinse your hair with fresh water as soon as you can. This helps remove the salt and residues that dry out your hair. Then, use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo that cleanses without stripping away natural oils. It’s important not to rub too hard; instead, gently massage your scalp with circular motions.

After washing, conditioner is your best friend. Use a hydrating one and leave it on for a few minutes to restore softness. If your hair feels really damaged, a nourishing mask with ingredients like coconut, aloe vera, or argan will work wonders. Apply it from mid-length to ends and leave it on for at least 10 minutes.

To detangle, skip fine-toothed combs. Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers, always starting from the tips and working your way up. This prevents breakage. Finish with a little lightweight hair oil or leave-in conditioner to seal in moisture and control frizz.

If the sun was too harsh, you can give your hair some extra love with homemade treatments. A bit of warm coconut oil as an overnight mask will restore lost elasticity and shine. And if you plan to head back to the beach the next day, don’t forget to protect your hair with UV spray or, even better, a stylish hat.
