How to Use an Eyelash Curler: A Beginner’s Guide

  1. Always Before Mascara

A common mistake is using the curler after applying mascara. Your lashes should be clean and dry when using the curler. Applying the curler over mascara can cause your lashes to stick to the curler and break. Additionally, this can result in a messy finish with clumps of mascara and an unnatural curl.

  1. Positioning the Curler

To use the eyelash curler:

Place your lashes onto the curler’s pad, ensuring you keep a safe distance from your skin to avoid pinching.

Gently press the curler for a few seconds to shape your lashes.

When releasing, open the curler slightly before removing it to avoid tugging and breakage.

  1. Curl in Two Stages

For a more natural and effective curl:

Curl your lashes in two stages: first at the base of the lashes (hold the pressure for about ten seconds), and then near the tips.

If your lashes are long, you can add a third curling point in the middle for a fuller curve.

This technique helps to open up the eyes with a smoother, more natural curve.

  1. Applying Mascara After Curling

To maximise the effect of the curler:

Apply a first coat of mascara on your lashes, twisting the brush in the direction of the curl to enhance the curl.

Then, apply mascara in a zigzag motion from the base to the tips to thoroughly coat each lash. Focus on the base of the lashes to open up your eyes and set the curl achieved with the curler.
