World Recipe: Zapiekanka

Zapiekanka is a Polish street food that became popular during the communist era. It consists of a halved baguette topped with mushrooms and cheese, then baked and served with ketchup.

Ingredients:

  • 1 baguette
  • 200 g fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 150 g grated cheese (Gouda or Emmental)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Ketchup for serving

Preparation:

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
  • In a pan, sauté the mushrooms with butter until golden.
  • Slice the baguette in half and spread the mushrooms on top.
  • Sprinkle with cheese and bake until melted and slightly golden.
  • Serve hot with ketchup drizzled over the top.
