26 Feb The Right Way to Apply Conditioner and Get the Most Out of It
Applying conditioner may seem like a simple step in a hair care routine, but doing it correctly can make a big difference in the final result. It’s not just about applying it from mid-lengths to ends and rinsing it out, but about making sure the product coats the entire hair evenly so it can truly do its job.

A common mistake is applying conditioner only to the surface of the hair, spreading it from top to bottom with your hands. This leaves much of the hair—especially the inner layers—without product. To avoid this, the key is to divide the hair into sections. Working section by section allows the conditioner to reach every strand and also makes it easier to rinse out afterward.

The ideal technique is to divide the hair into small sections and apply the conditioner from jaw level down to the ends. It’s recommended to section the hair into three parts on each side, although this can vary depending on hair density: fewer sections for fine or low-density hair, and more for thicker hair. Once the product is evenly distributed, it’s important to let it sit for a few minutes longer than indicated on the instructions. Clipping the hair up helps the product absorb properly without weighing it down.

Before applying conditioner, it’s also essential to remove excess water. The hair should be damp enough for the conditioner to glide easily, but not so wet that it drips and fails to penetrate. After the processing time, rinse thoroughly and, if needed, repeat the process for optimal results.
