How to Exfoliate Your Hair Properly

Hair exfoliation is a key step in keeping the scalp healthy and promoting stronger, more balanced hair growth. When done correctly, it helps remove impurities, product build-up, and excess oil, allowing the rest of your hair care routine to work more effectively.

The first step is to prepare your hair. Before you begin, make sure it is damp. The easiest way is to exfoliate during a shower, as moisture helps the exfoliating product penetrate the scalp more effectively. Next, apply an appropriate amount of scalp exfoliator directly to the roots. It is important to focus the product on the scalp rather than on the lengths and ends, so it works where it is truly needed.

Then, massage using your fingertips in gentle circular motions all over the head. This helps distribute the product evenly and stimulates microcirculation. The massage should last at least one minute to maximise its benefits. After that, rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until all the exfoliant is completely removed. Continue by washing your hair with your regular shampoo to ensure no residue is left behind.

To finish, hydrate with a conditioner or hair mask to help maintain moisture and balance. It is recommended to exfoliate the scalp no more than once or twice a week, as long as the hair is not damaged or weakened. Using scalp-specific exfoliating products is essential to help prevent dandruff, excess oil, hair loss, and premature hair ageing.
