29 Abr How to Properly Care for Your Vintage Garments
Vintage pieces, especially those made from delicate materials like suede or leather, require special care to preserve their beauty and extend their lifespan. If you want your statement items to remain in perfect condition, proper storage and cleaning are essential.

The most important thing is allowing the material to breathe. These fabrics are very sensitive to moisture and, if exposed for too long, can develop mould or deteriorate. Store them in cotton garment bags or breathable fabric covers — never plastic, as it traps moisture and can damage the fibres. Also, keep them in a dry, well-ventilated space, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.

To maintain their shape, especially in bags or sleeves, fill the inside with white tissue paper. This helps absorb residual moisture and prevents deformation.

When it comes to cleaning, if you are unsure, it’s best to take the item to a dry cleaner that specialises in leather. However, for light surface stains or rain marks, you can lightly spray some dry shampoo, let it sit for five minutes, and then gently brush it off.

Finish by brushing the suede with a clean, dry brush to restore its texture.
