Croque Monsieur with an Elegant Kir Royal

Croque Monsieur with an Elegant Kir Royal

If you want to bring a bit of Parisian flavor to your table, Croque Monsieur paired with an elegant Kir Royal is the ideal combination. Croque Monsieur is a classic of French cuisine: a toasted sandwich that, with its blend of melted cheese and béchamel sauce, is pure temptation.

And nothing pairs better than a Kir Royal, the sparkling and fruity cocktail that adds a chic touch to any occasion.

Ingredients

For the Croque Monsieur:

  • 4 slices of sandwich bread
  • Béchamel sauce (as needed)
  • 150 g natural cooked ham
  • 200 g Gruyère cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • Softened butter (for spreading)

For the Kir Royal:

  • Crème de cassis (to taste)
  • Well-chilled sparkling wine
  • Fresh raspberries (for garnish)

Preparation:

  • Spread softened butter on all 4 slices of bread.
  • On two slices, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard, then a layer of béchamel sauce, sliced Gruyère cheese, and cooked ham.

  • Add a bit more béchamel sauce and cover with the remaining slices of bread.
  • On the top slice, spread more béchamel and sprinkle with grated Gruyère cheese.
  • Bake in a hot oven until the cheese melts and the surface is golden and bubbly.

For the Kir Royal, pour a splash of crème de cassis into a glass and top with well-chilled sparkling wine. Garnish with fresh raspberries and cheers!

Tip: Serve the Croque Monsieur fresh out of the oven to enjoy its crispy texture and melted cheese.
