How to Apply Eye Makeup Without Irritating Sensitive Eyes

If you have sensitive eyes, wearing makeup doesn’t have to become an impossible mission. With a few simple precautions, you can enjoy eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara without compromising your eye comfort. The key is paying attention to the products you use and, above all, how you apply them.

Check the expiration dates: Before applying makeup, take a look at your products. Mascaras, eyeliners, and eyeshadows all have expiration dates too. If a cosmetic has changed in smell, texture, or color, it’s best to throw it away, even if there’s still plenty of product left.

Don’t share: It may seem like a small detail, but sharing eye makeup can make it easier for bacteria to spread. So, even if it’s your best friend, it’s best for everyone to have their own products and applicators.

Go easy on waterproof products: If you have sensitive eyes, try not to overuse waterproof mascaras and eyeliners. Although they last much longer, they can be harder to remove and often require more rubbing around the eye area, which can lead to irritation.

Apply makeup on the outside: Avoid applying eyeliner or eyeshadow directly along the inner rim of the eye. Instead, apply them along the outside of the lashes and leave the inner area clear. When removing your makeup, be gentle and avoid rubbing.

And remember: if a product causes burning, itching, redness, or discomfort, it’s best to stop using it. Your eyes deserve a little extra care too!
