Take Care of Your Stomach in the Days Between the Holidays

Between Christmas and New Year’s, many of us feel something familiar: bloating, slow digestion, and a general tiredness we can’t quite explain. The answer usually lies in the stomach, which is trying to recover from heavy meals, toasts, and changes in routine. The good news is that those in-between days are perfect for giving it a break and reaching the new year with more energy.

The first step is to go back to simplicity. Choosing light meals with fresh ingredients and little fat helps the digestive system return to its natural rhythm. Gentle soups, steamed vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins are perfect allies. It’s not about “making up for anything,” but about finding balance.

It’s also important to hydrate more than usual. Water, digestive herbal teas, and sugar-free drinks make digestion easier and reduce the feeling of heaviness. Avoid alcohol and very sugary drinks when you can, as they prolong inflammation.

Another simple but powerful habit is to eat more slowly. Chewing well and taking small pauses between bites allows your stomach to work without overload and helps prevent that uncomfortable pressure after meals.

If possible, add gentle movement: a 20-minute walk or some stretching helps activate digestion and improve your overall wellbeing.

The days between the holidays shouldn’t feel like punishment or a detox race. They’re an opportunity to reconnect with your body, listen to it, and give it what it truly needs. With small choices, your stomach can recover and help you start the new year feeling lighter and well.
