07 Mar Using Contact Lenses: What You Need to Know
Wearing contact lenses often raises questions, especially when thinking about long-term use. Specialists agree that most people can wear contact lenses for decades without problems, as long as they are properly fitted, have good eye health, and follow professional advice.

Contact lenses are designed to provide comfort and effective vision correction. Unlike glasses, they cover the entire surface of the eye and adapt to the shape of the eyeball, making them a practical option for everyday use. Wearing them daily is safe if the recommended hours are respected, usually between 8 and 12 hours.

It is important to understand the different types. Daily disposable lenses do not require maintenance and must be thrown away after each use. Monthly lenses, on the other hand, need proper cleaning and should be stored in specific solutions. In both cases, hygiene is essential to prevent infections and discomfort, so following the instructions from the manufacturer and your optician–optometrist is key.

Sleeping with contact lenses is not recommended. During the night, tear production and oxygen flow decrease, which can cause dryness and eye irritation when you wake up.

Regarding contact with water, brief exposure usually does not cause issues, but prolonged contact while swimming or showering can allow particles to stick to the lenses and increase the risk of infection. Taking precautions is essential to protect your eye health.
