10 Oct The Farmer’s Walk
If you are looking for a simple exercise that can work a large part of your body, the farmer’s walk can be a great addition to your routine. This functional strength exercise involves walking for a set amount of time or distance while carrying a weight in each hand.

Although it looks like a basic movement, it makes your whole body work. By distributing the weight between both arms, you strengthen your arms, core and legs while improving overall strength and stability.

Technique is key. Try to use similar weights in both hands and keep your arms straight and close to your body throughout the walk. To protect your back, maintain an upright posture and engage your core. Keep your shoulders back and down and slightly lift your chest to maintain good alignment. Instead of trying to walk quickly, take short, controlled steps. Look straight ahead and focus on the movement rather than thinking about how much longer you have to go. Staying focused on the present can make the effort feel more manageable.

One of its main benefits is strengthening the abdominal area, as it works the core and helps improve stability. It can also help protect the lower back and promote better balance. That said, start with a weight you can control and always prioritise good technique.
