Protect Your Hair from Chlorine

Protect Your Hair from Chlorine

Enjoying a day at the swimming pool is a great plan, but chlorine can become one of your hair’s biggest enemies. To prevent your hair from becoming dry, losing its shine or getting damaged, there are some simple steps you can add to your routine before and after swimming.

One of the most important things is to wet your hair with clean running water before getting into the pool. When your hair is already wet, it will absorb less pool water and therefore have less contact with chlorine and other metals found in the water.

It is also a good idea to wear a swimming cap, as it helps reduce direct contact between your hair and the water. And as soon as you get out of the pool, do not wait: rinse your hair immediately to remove as much chlorine as possible before it has a chance to build up.

When you shower, use a moisturising and repairing shampoo. If you have coloured or highlighted hair, it is best to choose one that protects the colour and helps prevent chlorine from affecting it. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and make sure all the product is washed out.

To finish your routine, apply a treatment specifically designed for the ends of your hair to help repair them and keep your hair soft, moisturised and healthy.
