Labneh

Labneh

Labneh is a creamy, fresh preparation of Arab origin, perfect to serve as a starter or accompaniment. Its texture is similar to a soft cheese and it is delicious with lavash bread, vegetables or as part of a sharing platter.

Ingredients

  • 500 g plain yoghurt
  • 25 g pistachios
  • 10 g red onion
  • 5 black olives
  • 1 tablespoon fresh oregano
  • Olive oil, as needed
  • Fine salt, to taste
  • Lavash bread, to serve

Method

  • Place the plain yoghurt in a clean cloth or a special bag for making plant-based milk.
  • Place it over a sieve and leave it to drain in the fridge for 24 hours. This step is essential for removing excess liquid and achieving the characteristic thick texture of labneh.
  • Once the time is up, remove the strained yoghurt and place it in a bowl. Add salt to taste and mix well until combined.
  • Transfer the labneh to a plate and gently spread it out to create an attractive presentation.
  • Top with the chopped pistachios, red onion cut into thin strips, black olives and fresh oregano leaves.

To finish, drizzle generously with olive oil.
